On July 6, 2020, a group of individuals belonging to the State Security Forces entered Ahmed Ayoub’s house and arrested him. As he was on the phone with a friend when the security forces knocked on the door, Ayoub was able to tell his friend to warn his parents that he was going to be arrested by the State Security Investigations Service, who were wearing civilian clothes. The connection was lost during the arrest. Shortly after, his mother came to the house and found that they searched the house and confiscated two laptops.

On March 31, 2020, a man entered Naji Salim’s clothes shop and wandered around; refusing to say what he was looking for before leaving. Fifteen minutes later, he returned to the shop with a group of men dressed in civilian clothes. They arrested Salim, in the presence of bystanders, without presenting him with an arrest warrant or giving a reason for his arrest. They refused to tell the employees in the shop where they were taking him.

Dr. Ahmed Amasha is a veterinarian, human rights defender, trade unionist and member of the “Kefaya” opposition movement. He co-founded the League for Families of the Disappeared, which provides relatives of victims of enforced disappearance in Egypt with legal advice and helps them file complaints at both the domestic and international level.

On February 3, 2020, approximately 50 members of the State Security Forces were involved in a raid on Abdel Matar’s home. Some of the individuals were in state security uniform whilst others wore civilian clothes. The State Security Forces had six armoured vehicles and were accompanied by several police cars.
During the raid the perpetrators insulted Matar, arrested him, and destroyed the contents of his home. No arrest warrant was presented and the arrest was witnessed by family members and neighbours.

On December 23, 2018, Yosr Mahmoud went to Cairo International Airport to drop off her parents, who were flying to Istanbul. At 11 a.m. Yosr Mahmoud was led away from the departure hall by an airport security officer and subsequently disappeared. 22 days after her disappearance, Yosr Mahmoud was released. On the same day, Yosr Mahmoud’s parents, who had also been disappeared at the airport, were brought before the Public Prosecution Office and formally charged.

Al Akeed is an Egyptian citizen who has previously been the victim of arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance. On February 22, 2014, he was arrested by the Nationanl Security Agency (NSA) and remained forcibly disappeared for a month before he was found to be detained at Tora Prison in Cairo.

On March 17, 2019 at 5 p.m., Mahmoud Qassim was walking to a grocery store in Al Saaeh Square in Alexandria when he was arrested and taken to an unknown location by members of the state security forces, who were dressed in plainclothes.
Two days after the arrest, the state security forces searched his apartment and confiscated his laptop and mobile phone. They arrested the landlord of his apartment, who was released five days later.

On October 6, 2013, Abdelrahman Mohamed Mostafa El Gendy was sitting in the family car, with his father, when they were both arrested by two men in civilian clothes without a warrant. That day, El Gendy and his father had driven to take photographs of the demonstrations, however, it is believed that they were considered by the authorities to be affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, and therefore involved in the demonstrations, because El Gendy’s father had a beard.
