May 7, 2019: Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights calls on the Emirati authorities to investigate the circumstances around Alya’s death.
May 4, 2019: Alya passes away at Tawam hospital in Al Ain.
February 12, 2019: Three UN Special Rapporteurs write to UAE authorities to request further information on Alya’s case, including with regards to allegations of torture, her conditions of detention, the factual and legal grounds for her detention, and why she has not been released on health grounds.
December 21, 2018: MENA Rights Group and the International Center for Justice and Human Rights submit urgent appeal to Special Rapporteur on Health and Special Rapporteur on Torture.
May 15, 2017: Sentenced to 10 years in prison based on confessions extracted under torture.
November 2016: Transferal from Al Wathba Prison to Al Mafraq Hospital.
