Silencing dissent in the name of fighting terrorism: Administrative measures as a tool of repression in the MENA
This report was submitted in response to a call for input by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism. It aims to inform his forthcoming thematic report on the human rights impacts of administrative measures to counter terrorism and (violent) extremism, to be presented to the UN General Assembly in October 2025.

Kuwait rejects Universal Periodic Review recommendations to lift restrictions on civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights
On July 16, 2020, Kuwait informed the Human Rights Council of its decision to accept 230 of the recommendations made by UN member states during its Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in January 2020.

Kuwait’s human rights record examined by UN Member States
During its Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on January 29, 2020, Kuwait received about 300 recommendations from 122 states on issues including the right to nationality, the rights to freedom of expression, opinion and peaceful assembly. States also used this opportunity to address the situation of Kuwait’s marginalised population including the Bidoon and migrant workers.
