Timeline
December 31, 2021: Al Qaradawy is released pending investigation.
December 2, 2021: MENA Rights Group requests the WGAD to issue an Opinion on Al Qaradawy’s case, arguing that she is subjected to the practice of “rotation” and is therefore detained arbitrarily.
February 19, 2020: The Cairo Criminal Court orders Al Qaradawy to be released, but the prosecution successfully appeals the decision.
July 4, 2019: Al Qaradawy is brought to the SSSP to be interrogated in a new case (Case No. 800/2019) and accused of “joining a terrorist group and financing it from within the prison”.
July 3, 2019: Al Qaradawy is again ordered to be released from pre-trial detention on probationary measures, but the prosecution successfully appeals the decision.
May 20, 2019: Al Qaradawy is ordered to be released from pre-trial detention, but the prosecution successfully appeals the decision.
April, 2018: The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) adopts Opinion No. 26/2018 declaring Al Qaradawy’s detention arbitrary.
October 12, 2017: UN experts send communication UA EGY 15/2017 in relation to Al Qaradawy’s detention.
July 2, 2017: Al Qaradawy and her husband are taken to the SSSP’s office and accused of “joining a terrorist group” and “financing and supporting the Brotherhood and its terrorist committees and cell” (Case No. 316/ 2017). Al Qaradawy is brought to Al Qanater women’s prison.
June 30, 2017: Al Qaradawy is arrested along with her husband in Alexandria by members of the Egyptian State Security forces.
